In BITTER Chocolate Stories Dutch journalist Marijn Heemskerk and prize winning Ivorian photographer Joana Choumali interview and picture 15 children who have managed to escape forms of child labour on cocoa plantations in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. More than 2 million children there, continue to be the victims of the mechanisms of poverty as well as western disinterest. The exhibition and accompanying book, started as an initiative of Tony’s Chocolonely and Paradox, to raise awareness about failing responsibility in the chocolate chain, ranging from cocoa farmers, chocolate companies, retailers, governments as well as consumers.
At Museum De Fundatie BITTER is part of the John Heartfield inspired critical exhibition Whose Is The World?.
Please note: On the museum website Whose Is The World? is announced until August 22. Unfortunately this is not true for all parts the show. The last day for BITTER will be June 27.
