Help the Arab Image Foundation

On the 4th of August, explosions at the port of Beirut devastated the city. 800m from the site, the Arab Image Foundation’s premises sustained substantial damage.

Their on-site facilities include workspaces, a cool storage room for the collection, and a library. The preservation department was the most severely impacted. To help them cover costs of the cleaning process, replacing equipment and repairing workspaces we will donate all proceeds from the sale of the Paradox publications available online from today until the end of October.

About the AIF

In addition to initiating conservation projects and workshops at the intersection of artistic creation, research, and archiving, the AIF restores and conserves hundreds of thousands of photographic objects and documents from and related to the Middle East, North Africa and the Arab diaspora. The work of over 250 amateur photographers and 700 professional photographers and studios, the objects date from the 1860s to the present day, and span 50 countries.

With a critical and innovative approach, the foundation collects, rethinks, preserves, activates and understands these photographs through their multiple strata, enriching the collection in the process.

Looking to engage a broad regional and international community in experimental thought and practice that extends the photographic concept, the AIF encourages artists, researchers, students, cultural practitioners and the general public to learn, discover, create, and exchange ideas.
