Invitation to Kwaku Conversation
An open discussion on access to the city at Bijlmer Parktheater
Open Schoolgemeenschap Bijlmer photography workshop participants by Lebohang Tlali
How do young people experience their connection or separation from other cultural groups in their neighbourhood and city? How accessible are institutes and cultural platforms to them? Who has access, who doesn’t and how can we break the boundaries?
Join us for Kwaku Conversation, a discussion (in English) included in the Welkom Today @ Amsterdam Zuid(oost) programme this Saturday July 13 at 15.00 at the Bijlmer Parktheater, directly adjacent to Nelson Mandela Park where Kwaku Summer Festival takes place.
Together with Mitchell Esajas (Black Archives and New Urban Collective), Naomie Pieter (Queer and anti-racism activist, Pon di Pride), Nona Nahumury (guest lecturer on shared Dutch history, Welke Sporen Horen We, founder of Speak Up) and Lebohang Tlali (photographer and cultural entrepreneur) we will discuss the theme of ‘separate worlds’ and the boundaries and complexities of access to the city from a broad and young perspective. The conversation will be led by Rita Ouédraogo (programmer, researcher and curator).
Entrance to the discussion requires a Kwaku Summer Festival day pass (EUR 6) that includes access to the complete festival programme on Saturday July 13, including Kwaku Photo Studio (also open on Sunday July 14) where you can have your portrait taken from 14.00 – 19.30 by photography workshop students guided by Lebohang Tlali. Your photo will then be included in the pop-up exhibition at CBK Zuidoost and you will also receive a print of it!
