Creative Industries Fund NL support for N_O_W_H_E_R_E

Study of the facade with an immersive, AI-navigated projection

Happy to start the year with exciting news that one of our projects in the pipeline N_O_W_H_E_R_E has been selected to receive support from the Creative Industries Fund NL under their Open Call for Exceptional Presentations!

The grant aims to enable a number of distinctive, ambitious presentations that show the qualities and significance of contemporary architecture, design and digital culture to the public.

N_O_W_H_E_R_E is a large-scale, exhibition installation in which the works of the Dutch artist/photographer Frank van der Salm are central. Along with Nederlands Fotomuseum, our partner and venue, and author Frank van der Salm we are closely collaborating with the University of Amsterdam, architect Winy Maas, graphic designer Irma Boom and others to question the quality of the urban area and architecture and introduce and question the meaning of AI for the arts.

Students receive Welkom Today books

Students of Welkom Gimnasium High School

The Welkom Today books have made it to South Africa. An important aspect of the project was bringing Ad van Denderen’s 1990s photographs back to where they were taken – and never seen before. Equally as important – the book reaching the students of the three schools in Welkom and Thabong (Teto High, Welkom Gimnasium and Goudveld Hoërskool) whose excellent work during photographic workshops conducted in 2017 contributed so much to the Welkom Today project. Thanks to Lebo Tlali and Kgojane Matutle for distributing them. Next step – bringing the 2019 exhibition to South Africa too!

Note on Voyage à Dakar

Since 2016 Paradox has been working with Judith Quax on the development of her project Voyage à Dakar. In anticipation of a definitive form for the book and exhibition installation, scheduled for this year, it has been decided in good consultation to end our collaboration on Voyage à Dakar. We wish Judith Quax every success with the upcoming realisation of this meaningful project.

Suppressed
By The Saviour

2019 saw the conclusion of Hester den Boer's look at Russia's past and the current climate of growing repression. The final episode focuses on the story of over 6 million people who were deported or exiled to the far corners of the Soviet empire during the Stalin regime. Den Boer visited one of the places people were sent, the Siberian city of Tomsk.
