Studio Aleppo [Europe] taking shape
Opening of Studio Aleppo [Helsinki]. Photo: Johannes Romppanen
After the first Studio Aleppo in Amsterdam in 2016, we want to keep contributing to a positive change in the perception of refugees. Three new Studio Aleppo’s are emerging in 2017, bringing old and new citizens of a city together in a pop-up photo studio. Photographer Juuso Westerlund (FI) portrayed 46 families, which led to a portrait gallery at the National Museum of Finland. On 16 and 17 September photographer Robin de Puy will portray ‘old’ and ‘new’ citizens of The Hague at Humanity House. In October, GfHf will host a Studio Aleppo with multiple photographers in Berlin. All the portraits of the studios together form a evolving collection picturing new European citizens.

From 27 October 2017 FOMU Antwerp brings together all the photography collections of the Ebifananyi series by Andrea Stultiens. Over the past years Stultiens brought to life several Ugandan photo collections, many of them born out of passion. Overall, the exhibition gives a personal view into the Ugandan society and history from inside out. Each collection demonstrates the wide variety of narrative potential for historical footage and shows how photographic images in this East African country are being used.
